Sidney Crosby Was Spotted At A Canadian Gas Station, And He Left His Mark In The Strangest Yet Coolest Way

Pittsburgh Penguins superstar and captain Sidney Crosby found a crafty way to leave his mark during a routine gas fill-up in Wallace, Nova Scotia.

Sidney Crosby was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and grew up in the nearby city of Cole Harbour. The longtime Penguins captain spends much of his summer in his home province, and the locals often tell incredible stories of his kindness and generosity.

On Sunday, Crosby stopped at an Ultramar gas station in Wallace, Nova Scotia to fill up his vehicle. A story has circulated on social media of Crosby leaving his calling card for the gas station employee on duty by purchasing exactly $87.87 worth of gas (a not to his jersey number and 8/7/87 birthdate):

Sidney Crosby fans know he chose his iconic jersey number because of his birthdate. His annual cap hit on the 12-year, $104.4 million extension he signed in the 2012 offseason is $8.7 million.

Crosby turned 37 on Wednesday, so it’s only fitting that this awesome story went viral on his birthday. Something also tells us that this wasn’t the first (nor will it be the last) time he purchased exactly $87.87 of gas.

The Penguins will kick off their 2024-25 season on Oct. 9, when they play at home against the Metropolitan Division rival New York Rangers.

Sidney Crosby Has Shown Zero Signs Of Slowing Down

The three-time Stanley Cup champion and two-time Hart Trophy winner may be 37 years of age, but Sidney Crosby showed last year that he still has plenty of hockey left in him. Crosby finished last season with 42 goals and 52 points, his best statistical season in five years.

Crosby has nothing more to prove at this phase of his illustrious career, but the desire to win more championships hasn’t gone away. We’ll see if the Pens can avoid missing the playoffs for the third straight year in Crosby’s age-37 season.
