Patrick Mahomes buys Christmas gifts for the Chiefs offensive linemen who have failed to protect him this season

Patrick Mahomes has treated his Kansas City Chiefs offensive linemen to coolers brimming with lavish Christmas gifts – despite the fact they’ve failed to protect him on the field this season.

The superstar Chiefs quarterback filled a host of luxury red Yeti coolers with some expensive presents for the offensive line; showering them with Rolex watches, compression leg attachments worth $999 each and Lucchese leather boots.

The Christmas packages also included Oakley sunglasses, WHOOP bands and items from Adidas’ Black Y-3 line, while some of his teammates even appeared to receive some Louis Vuitton luggage.

Mahomes has spent big on the Chiefs’ O-line despite the fact they’ve failed to stop him from being sacked a record amount of times so far in 2024.

After 14 games, the three-time Super Bowl winner has been sacked a career-high 35 times, going down as 2.5 per game.

Prior to this year, the highest number of sacks he had recorded through an entire regular season was 28.

Despite the Chiefs holding on for narrow victories on both occasions, Mahomes was sacked a total of five times in each of their games against the Carolina Panthers and Las Vegas Raiders last month – the highest amount he has ever suffered in a single game.

Before the Panthers win, he had only ever been sacked more than four times on one occasion as an NFL player; and that came six years ago during his first season as a starter for the Chiefs.

And when he equaled that career-high tally against the Raiders, head coach Andy Reid rang the changes to his offensive line when he hooked tackle Wanya Morris mid-game.

Morris, who is in his second season on the Kansas City roster, struggled to guard Mahomes from Las Vegas defenders in a disastrous performance before Reid opted to replace him with Joe Thuney at left tackle halfway through the fourth quarter.

Prior to his benching, the 24-year-old notably failed to stop K’Lavon Chaisson from breaking through and getting to the Chiefs quarterback, who was eventually sacked by Maxx Crosby after managing to shake Chaisson off.

Morris issued an apology and vowed to work on his game after being hooked by Reid.

‘I’ve got to be better,’ he admitted. ‘[I’ve] got to be better in certain situations and just overall.

‘Obviously it’s good to get the W, but I’m disappointed in myself. I know I’m better than that, and I can perform better than that. So, I apologize to my teammates. They did a good job lifting me up. But at the end of the day, you’ve got to go out there and do better.’

Mahomes is also facing a race against time to be fit for this weekend’s showdown with the Houston Texans after suffering a mild ankle sprain in Sunday’s victory over the Cleveland Browns.

The 29-year-old was hit high and low by Browns defenders just as he let go of an incomplete pass, having again failed to be protected by his offensive line.

Nevertheless, their struggles did not stop him from splashing the cash on some high-end gifts for them at Christmas.

It’s not the first time he’s done so, with Mahomes forking out on customized golf carts last year.
