Washington Commanders defensive lineman Daron Payne suffered an extremely painful injury during Sunday’s playoff win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and has shared an x-ray photo revealing the extent of the damage.
The 2022 Pro Bowler suffered a hand injury during the win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but eventually returned, which was surprising, as he posted a scan to social media showing a complete separation.
As you can see in the image below, one of Payne’s fingers was completely separated from his hand.
“That looks insanely painful. Daron Payne came back in the game after that too. Feel better soon, big man!” a comment read.
“Run defense took a step back after he went out, hopefully he’s good to roll next week,” someone noted.
Daron Payne’s Status For The Divisional Round Remains Unclear
The injury was not bad enough to keep Payne out of Sunday’s game, and he will likely be able to play when the Commanders head to Detroit for their Divisional Round showdown against the Lions.
Still, his availability isn’t guaranteed, so there will be some apprehension over his fitness heading into Washington’s next fixture. In any case, the team will provide an update on his status at some point this week.
Payne has been an important player for the Commanders since they took him as the 13th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
They will definitely need him against the Lions.
