A new clip showing Josh Allen’s attempt at the quarterback sneak that was ruled short has surfaced online and shows that the Buffalo Bills star did get that first down against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
Most people didn’t need any more convincing after seeing the play unfold live during the game, but if anyone needs more proof, a clip with a line drawn from the first-down marker shows the quarterback getting there before being pushed back by Chiefs defenders.
As we all know, the referees ruled the fourth-down attempt short. The on-field decision stood after a replay review, sending fans into a meltdown.
The call would cost the Bills their momentum as they lost their lead and never got back in front.
While there’s no changing the fact that the Chiefs are headed to the Super Bowl and not the Bills, the video below offers a bit more clarity.
Former NFL Referee Thought Josh Allen Did Just About Enough
NFL rules analyst and former referee Gene Steratore weighed in on the call almost immediately on CBS, telling Jim Nantz he thought Allen got the first down.
“I felt like he gained it by about a third of the football, Jim,” he said. “That was just my take on the play.”
Bills head coach Sean McDermott echoed a similar sentiment after the loss. “It looked like he got to it,” the HC remarked. “That’s all I can say.”
The controversial call has prompted cries for fans to boycott the Super Bowl, with many claiming their football-watching days are over. But how easy is it to stay away from the game? We reckon not very.
