Patrick Mahomes Sr. was forced into a groveling explanation Tuesday night after his X account shared a series of tweets about Sunday’s AFC Championship game.
The former MLB pitcher’s son, quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and the Kansas City Chiefs clashed with their long-time playoff rivals, the Buffalo Bills, once again in the AFC Championship Sunday.
After the Chiefs emerged victorious, punching their ticket to the Super Bowl for a third straight year, the X account belonging to Mahomes Sr. fired off a number of posts, including one taking aim at Bills fans.
‘Today is a great day to not be from Buffalo…,’ a tweet from the account read on Monday.
Mahomes Sr., who played in MLB for 11 seasons, has long been a strong supporter of his quarterback son and the Chiefs, previously taunting Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals. However, there was one issue with his latest mocking post: He claims it didn’t come from him.
The former baseball star took to his Instagram account in the early hours of Wednesday to claim that his X profile had been hacked.
Mahomes Sr., who courted controversy ahead of last year’s Super Bowl, insisted that he hadn’t personally been active on Twitter for a number of years.
‘Haven’t been on Twitter/X in years,’ he wrote in a brief statement on his Instagram story.
‘My account was hacked and I do not have access to it. Plz disregard any tweets from @pmahomes.’
However, the account’s last post before this week’s celebrations came just over two months ago on November 15, 2024 when it shared a throwback photo of a baby Mahomes Jr with his dad during a baseball game.
Its activity is rather sporadic, however, with only a couple of posts per year over the past three years.
In a separate post on Instagram, Mahomes Sr. maintained that his other social media account had been ‘compromised’ as he insisted that he means no disrespect to the Bills.
‘Attention: Patrick Mahomes Sr.’s X account has been compromised,’ he wrote. ‘The Mahomes family holds the utmost respect for the @BuffaloBills organization and the Bills Mafia fan base. We are actively working to resolve this issue. Thank you for your understanding.’
In addition to the account’s dig at Buffalo, it also wrote, ‘SEE YOU SOON NOLA!!!,’ and ‘Felling this energy today!!,’ along side a photo of himself and Mahomes Jr. in Chiefs gear.
The account also quote-tweeted a post from the Kansas City Chiefs, which featured a photo of Mahomes Jr., and wrote: ‘THAT’S MY BOY!!’
Last year, Mahomes Sr. was arrested by the Tyler Police Department February 3, eight days before his son won the Super Bowl for the Kansas City Chiefs in Las Vegas.
He was later taken to the Smith County Jail and held on a $10,000 bond. He did make it to the Super Bowl the weekend after the incident and saw his son win his third ring, as the Chiefs beat the 49ers 25-22 in overtime.
Mahomes Sr. later received a five-year probation sentence over the incident.
Mahomes Sr was arrested again in Texas back in June for driving on a suspended license.
At the beginning of August, Mahomes Sr celebrated six months of sobriety with an Instagram post.
He was in attendance at Arrowhead on Sunday following a few tough days for the Mahomes family.
After the game – and after the Chiefs had sealed progression to New Orleans next month – Mahomes Jr. was quick to come together with his family on the field.
In an emotional family moment, the quarterback posed with his mom Randi, wife Brittany – just days after she gave birth to their third child – dad Patrick Snr, brother Jackson and half-sister Mia.
The photo, which was posted by controversial figure Jackson, was accompanied by the caption ‘SUPERBOWL TIME!!!’ and includes red and yellow ticker tape floating in the background.
