Patrick Mahomes Debuts New Haircut Nearly Two Weeks After the Super Bowl Loss, Sparking Discussion – Photo

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has unveiled a dramatic hair transformation, trading in his signature mohawk-inspired curls for a cleaner, shorter fade. The NFL superstar, known for his iconic, voluminous locks, surprised the public with the unexpected change, which was first noticed in a recently shared photo circulating online.

The image, posted on X by Major League Football (ML Football), captured Patrick Mahomes looking sharp in an all-black, form-fitting polo shirt, accessorized with a red rose pinned to his chest. Wearing dark sunglasses and sporting a neatly trimmed beard, Mahomes exuded confidence as he showed off his new, low-maintenance style.

The post’s caption reads, “🚨BIG NEWS: #Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes has cut off his mohawk after losing the Super Bowl last week. 👀👀👀 A WHOLE NEW LOOK FOR PAT MAHOMES.”

Upon seeing this post, social media users flocked to X to express their opinions“Doesn’t even look like him but ok,” remarked a netizen, while another reiterated“i [sic] do not recognize.”

A Chiefs supporter chimed in with“I don’t like it. Bring Back The Old Cut. We Ain’t Done Yet! Go Chiefs!!!🔥.” They accompanied their message with a GIF of an animated version of Mahomes in his Chiefs gear, banging on a drum.

One X user poked fun at Mahomes’ new haircut, “Maybe with Patrick Mahomes’ new haircut, his helmet won’t sit so high on his head.” “Eagles beat up on Mahomes soo [sic] bad they made that boy get a haircut,” added someone else, referencing the Chiefs’ Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

“Oh darn, I really liked his hair before. Oh well, the new ‘do’ is ok too. What really matters is that he’s still the same Patrick Mahomes we all love so much❤️❤️❤️. Sorry to hear about your grand dads [sic] passing Patrick 😪😪,” expressed a fan.

On the other hand, some people love Mahomes’ new look. “He looks so much better!” declared an admirer, while another praised“Looks more grown up, adulting!” Even someone who isn’t particularly fond of the football star commended“Not a Mahomes fan, but the new haircut looks great!! ‘Bout time he changes it!”

While much of the online discourse centered around Mahomes’ new haircut, many overlooked a significant detail—the setting in which the now-viral image was taken.

The snapshot wasn’t from a casual outing or a planned media appearance; rather, it was captured during an emotional moment at his grandfather Randy Martin’s funeral service.

While Mahomes’ fresh haircut may have taken fans by surprise, the quarterback had been contemplating a change for quite some time. In fact, his decision to ditch his signature mohawk-inspired curls was not a spur-of-the-moment reaction following the Chiefs’ Super Bowl loss but rather something he had been toying with for over a year.

During an episode of the Netflix documentary series “Quarterback,” which chronicled Mahomes’ 2022 NFL season alongside Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota, he candidly expressed his plans to shake things up.

While working out with his personal trainer, Bobby Stroupe, Mahomes got visibly frustrated when his headband’s Velcro got caught in his hair. At that moment, he declared, “This is my last year with the hair.”

Stroupe, seemingly taken aback, questioned whether Mahomes was serious about cutting his hair, but the Chiefs star doubled down. “Hair’s gone next year. Going with different hair next year,” he insisted.

Though unsure of the exact style he would transition to, Mahomes made it clear that the mohawk-inspired look was on its way out.

He even admitted that he had considered making the change earlier but decided against it to avoid clashing with Head & Shoulders—the shampoo brand he endorses.

Beyond aesthetics or brand obligations, Mahomes also joked that fatherhood played a role in his decision. With two young children, he quipped, “I can’t have two kids and a mohawk.” When Stroupe pushed back, questioning why not, Mahomes playfully replied, “Imagine me 40 years old with this haircut. I mean, come on.”

While the internet may have mixed feelings about his new look, for Mahomes, this was simply the next step in an evolution he saw coming all along.

Although he had been toying with the idea of changing his hair for a while, it doesn’t change the fact that the hairstyle switch-up follows the Chiefs’ 2025 Super Bowl loss. After the Eagles emerged victorious, online viewers weighed in with their take on why the team won.
