In a small Mississippi town, two families with the same last name have defied the odds by both welcoming sets of triplets just a few months apart.
Dr. Joe Washburne, the OB-GYN who delivered all six babies, told WDAM on Monday, June 16, that spontaneous triplets typically occur once per 8,000 pregnancies, so he was surprised when two mothers from Ellisville, Miss., both gave birth to sets of three newborns. The women did not know each other ahead of their pregnancies.
Ellisville is a town of only about 4,500 people and located about 80 miles southeast of Jackson, Miss.
Both families are named the Crawfords and were already parents to one child each and wanted to welcome another, per WDAM.
“For the longest time, I kept trying to tell the ultrasound tech that she had the wrong patient pulled up,” Marissa Crawford told the station about the moment she found out they were becoming a family of six.
One family named their trio Birdie, Bronc, and Barnett while the other called theirs Jack, Rivers, and Cherish, per WDAM.
Both sets of Crawford babies had to stay in the NICU after the births, but all of the little ones and their moms are healthy and the two women have since connected on social media, the station reported.
