Why is Simone Biles wearing a walking boot after her Olympic silver win?

Simone Biles, who has further solidified her status as one of the greatest athletes of all time during the 2024 Paris Olympics, was recently seen wearing a walking boot following her silver medal performance in the floor exercise final.

This precautionary measure was taken due to a persistent calf injury.

Biles appeared on TV with a walking boot

Biles, who earned three gold medals in the Summer Games, appeared on NBC’s “Today” show, where she discussed the reason for the boot.

“We’re resting up as much as possible,”Biles explained.

“We have tour in a couple weeks. So, I’m just going to rest and heal.”

The injury first became noticeable during the floor exercise warmups on July 28.

Speaking to NBC’s Mike Tirico while wearing the boot, Biles reassured fans about her condition.

“Calf is good. It’s just precautionary, making sure, because we still have tour after this to heal up and all of that stuff. So, just a little bit of soreness,” she said.

Biles is scheduled to participate in the “Gold Over America Tour,” which will see her and other top gymnasts perform in 30 arenas across the United States.

Despite the injury, Biles remains optimistic about her recovery and readiness for the tour.

Biles reflects on Olympic Games comeback

Reflecting on her journey to the Paris Olympics, Biles noted the significant mental and physical challenges she had to overcome.

At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, she experienced the “twisties,” a phenomenon that prevents gymnasts from performing twisting skills they have mastered.

Her return to the Olympic stage in Paris was a personal victory.

“It was important to me because nobody forced me to be out there on that stage. I solely did it for myself and I’m in a really good spot mentally and physically. So doing this for just me meant the world,”Biles shared.

Even with the nagging injury, Biles’ performance in Paris was nothing short of remarkable.

She contributed to Team USA’s gold medal in the team competition, secured individual golds in the all-around and vault events, and ended her Olympics with a silver medal in the floor exercise and a fifth-place finish on the balance beam.
