Travis Kelce jokes that he transforms into ‘Ted Lasso’ character on Chiefs’ media day
The Chiefs held their media day earlier this month, and it’s a time when the networks can get clips of the players, and photos and videos are made that will be displayed on the Arrowhead Stadium scoreboard. Tight end Travis Kelce absolutely hates it. In fact, the usually upbeat Kelce said he turns into the fictional player-turned-coach from “Ted Lasso.”

“I’ll do it for the in-house people because I know them on a personal level,” Kelce said last week on the New Heights podcast. “But honestly all the extra production stuff, I’m just kind of like, no, no, I will see you guys later and I got some sad eyes, but it is what it is. I feel like doing that every single year for the same networks, doing the exact same thing, I’m just, I’m too stubborn. “I’m just an old angry veteran at this point. I am., what was his name? Roy Kent off of ‘Ted Lasso.’ Don’t miss me with all the … extra (stuff).” Roy Kent was a surly and foul-mouthed former player who had a heart of gold. He was portrayed by Brett Goldstein on the Emmy Award-winning show
Roy Kent yelling whistle instead of using a whistle is such a weirdly perfect little detail.
Yes I’m watching Ted Lasso before work.

Kelce said he’s not the only veteran player who dislikes the media day requirements. “I feel bad for the guys that have to do this. You know what I mean? Like they’re just coming in to a hornets’ nest, just angry vets that don’t want to do this,” Kelce said. “There was a point where I felt bad and I was just like, ‘All right, let’s just hurry up and get this thing over with. Come on, what else do I need to do?’ All right, stand here. Turn over my right shoulder and smile and point at the camera. Got it, I’ll do it. I‘d rather sit here and watch film than do this.”
