Barron Trump Transferred to New York University’s D.C. Campus: Source

Barron Trump is staying close to his parents for at least the next few months as he adjusts to a new college environment.
The 19-year-old son of President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump attended his first year of college at New York University’s Greenwich Village campus while commuting from Trump Tower in Manhattan.
However, when Barron was not spotted back on NYU’s main campus — where the Stern School of Business is based — after fall courses began in early September, PEOPLE learned that the first son is “doing a semester” in another city.
Days later, a source with inside knowledge has filled in the gaps by confirming to PEOPLE that Barron is now attending classes at NYU’s Washington, D.C., campus, which sits only a few blocks from the White House.

While an estimated 29,060 undergraduate students study at NYU, the D.C. campus is only home to roughly 100 students.
The school’s website explains that undergrad students based in D.C. “engage deeply with politics, policy, business, journalism, and leadership through coursework and experiential learning in the nation’s capital.”
A semester at the D.C. campus costs an undergraduate student approximately $32,811, and housing could amount to another $9,513.

It is not clear where Barron has been living since switching campuses, or whether he plans to return to N.Y.C. after the fall semester, but NYU’s D.C. branch is less than a mile away from the presidential residence and Melania has previously stated that her son will always have a room waiting in the White House.
A reason for Barron’s transfer was not confirmed, and the first lady’s office declined to comment for PEOPLE’s story.

Barron Trump shakes hands with President Donald Trump after the inauguration of Donald Trump as the 47th president of the United States takes place inside the Capitol Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C., Monday, January 20, 2025. It is the 60th U.S. presidential inauguration and the second non-consecutive inauguration of Trump as U.S. president.

In August, a source told PEOPLE that Melania keeps a close eye on her son.
“Melania watches Barron constantly in an effort to be sure nobody messes with him or bullies him, as this is a constant worry with her,” the source explained. “She always knows where he is and what he’s doing.”
In December 2024, a source shared that despite her focus on protecting her son, Melania finds time to balance her other duties.
“Barron is in school all day, so she has plenty of time for official jobs as well as being there for her son when he needs her,” the source told PEOPLE at the time.

Little is known about Barron’s first year of college, however, a source recently told PEOPLE that the president’s youngest son spent the summer “actively working on his own financial interests and has spent time with others who he is involved with in that area.”
The insider noted that he “has spent a great deal of time with his family,” adding that he isn’t considering dating to be “a big deal in his life right now.”
“He has more school, a family who dotes on him and a career of his own he is launching,” they said.
