Football can change in an instant. One play, you’re the star of the game, and the next, you’re walking off in pain. Browns rookie running back Quinshon Judkins left during the third quarter of a 32–13 loss to the Patriots in the same way.
For Browns fans already frustrated with the season, seeing Judkins hurt was worrying. The rookie has been one of the team’s few bright spots this year, especially with all the recent drama surrounding him, including a viral report about his alleged off-field issues.
Thankfully, there’s some good news. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Judkins has an AC joint sprain in his shoulder and is listed as day-to-day.
The timing helps, as the Browns have a bye in Week 9. With extra rest, coach Kevin Stefanski is hopeful Judkins will be ready to play when they face the Jets in Week 10.
Judkins Avoids Major Setback As Browns Regroup

Judkins left Sunday’s loss after logging nine carries for 19 yards and three catches for minus two. It was a rough outing, even before the injury, as the Patriots sold out to stop him. In his absence, rookie Dylan Sampson handled most of the snaps, finishing with three carries for zero yards but catching five passes for 29 yards. Jerome Ford barely got involved, tallying just one catch for negative yardage.
Stefanski’s tone on Monday clearly hinted that it wasn’t something worse. For a player who’s already stacked up 486 rushing yards and five touchdowns in seven games, that’s great news.
Judkins has quickly become the Browns’ most reliable playmaker, a rare spark in a sluggish offense. It’s no secret that Cleveland needs him back as soon as possible.
Looking ahead, the Browns have more to worry about than just Judkins’ recovery. Reports say the team might make a big change at quarterback, with the team planning to start Shedeur Sanders. For now, the main goal is to get their rookie star healthy and ready for Week 10 against the Jets in New York.
