Authorities issue disturbing update in case of three tourists who were killed on surfing trip in Mexico

Australian brothers Jake, 30, and Callum Robinson, 33, and their American friend Jack Carter Rhoad, 30, went missing while on a surfing trip in the Mexican state of Baja California in April 2024. They were reported missing when they failed to turn up to their pre-booked accommodation.

Sadly, just a few days later, their bodies were found in a sparsely populated area 50 miles south of Ensenada, Mexico. The three men all had a single gunshot wound to the back of the head.

It was later revealed that the trio died as a result of a ‘robbery gone wrong’.

Baja California state attorney general María Elena Andrade Ramírez previously theorized: “The attackers drove by in their vehicle. They approached, with the intention of stealing their vehicle and taking the tires and other parts to put them on the older-model pickup they were driving.”

Ramírez went on: “When they [the foreigners] came up and caught them, surely, they resisted. And these people, the assailants, took out a gun and first they killed the one who was putting up resistance against the vehicle theft, and then others came along and joined the fight to defend their property and their companion who had been attacked, and they killed them too.”

Now Ary Gisell Silva Raya, 23, has pleaded guilty to robbery with violence. While she is not believed to have been involved with the killings of the Robinson brothers and their pal Rhoad, it was Silva Raya who ‘instigated her companions to rob them of their belongings’, says ABC News.

In the wake of pleading guilty, Silva Raya has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

The three other accomplices — Jesús Gerardo García Cota, his brother Irineo Francisco García Montaño, and Ángel Jesús León Aguilera — have been charged with murder and will be tried next year. They are waiting to get a hearing date, NBC San Diego reports.

Following the heartbreaking deaths last year, Jake and Callum’s mom, Debra Robinson, issued a heartbreaking statement while addressing the media.

“Our hearts are broken and the world has become a darker place for us,” she said.

Debra went on to hail Callum as ‘a lovable, larger-than-life character’, while Jake was ‘a happy, gentle and compassionate soul’.
