Travis Kelce told reporters he wants them to “focus” on the Chiefs’ final three games of the season and not his potential retirement
The tight end said he’s in a “unique time in my life” as he contemplates hanging up his cleats after 13 season in the NFL
Kelce is “just trying to make sure that everybody here knows that I’m focused on trying to win football games,” in the final weeks of the season
Travis Kelce wants to keep the focus on his team until the end of the NFL season.
With the Chiefs already mathematically eliminated from playoff contention with their loss to the Chargers on Sunday, Kelce, 36, was once again asked if he has an update on whether or not he’ll retire at the end of this season.
“I’d rather keep the focus of the media and everything on this team, right now,” the tight end told reporters during a press conference on Friday, Dec. 19. “All the conversations I have with the team moving forward will be with them.”
Kelce, who is also planning his wedding with fiancée Taylor Swift, said that he’s in “a unique time in my life” right now knowing that they won’t make the playoffs in the final year of his contract.
“Unfortunately, I’ve got three games left, and I know when the season ends this year.”

He noted that the Chiefs “typically” go into the postseason — where it’s win or you’re out each week — not knowing when their last game will be, but for the first time in 10 years, they know their final game is on Jan. 4. “And that’s the beauty of it,” Kelce said.

The Chiefs will be without Patrick Mahomes in those games after the superstar quarterback suffered a torn ACL on Dec. 14. The Chiefs announced Mahomes had undergone surgery to repair his ACL one day later.
After Mahomes’ injury, Kelce shared his reaction on the Dec. 17 episode of his and brother Jason Kelce’s New Heights podcast. “Obviously, we lost our quarterback, man. Patty Mahomes, our guy, our brother, our fearless leader, our face of the franchise, and, to an ACL. It’s never easy seeing your guys go down. We had a bunch of guys get hurt this past game,” the tight end said.
“And on a freakish play to see one five go down like that, man, it f——, it was almost like it wasn’t real. And s— just sucks, man.”
