The Kansas City Chiefs close out their preseason schedule against the Chicago Bears on Thursday, with the team looking to kick things into gear ahead of the new NFL season.
The Chiefs have come up short in both their games so far, falling to the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Detroit Lions, though that likely won’t bother the two-time defending Super Bowl champions.
With the team once again poised to challenge for another title, staying healthy and sharp is more important for stars like Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.
So far the two have suited up in both of Kansas City’s preseason games, with fans wondering whether they will play in the third and final game.
Will Mahomes and Kelce play?
Andy Reid spoke to the media on Monday and stated that Mahomes and Kelce – along with the rest of the team’s starters – will likely sit against Chicago.
“As far as the rotation goes for the Bears, I’ll probably sit the starters the way it looks right now and we’ll have the other guys get out there and play,” Reid told reporters.
“We’ll just see how that goes repetition-wise.”
Reid stated that the decision was made after looking at how many snaps the offense has taken during training camp, with the coach revealing they’ve taken 50 more snaps than last year.
The move doesn’t come as a huge surprise, as while Mahomes has suited up in both games, he’s only attempted a combined 20 passes.
Following Thursday’s game, the Chiefs will then gear up for the season opener against the Baltimore Ravens on September 5.
Mahomes and Kelce have been busy this offseason
Mahomes enjoyed his offseason by spending time with his wife Brittany and children in Portugal back in June. They also spent time in Mexico.
As for Kelce, he has kept himself busy by following girlfriend Travis Kelce around the world for her Eras Tour.
