Taylor Swift Issues Surprising Response To Controversial Winter Olympics Wedding Proposal After U.S. Skier’s Nasty Crash

Taylor Swift reacts as Olympic proposal divides fans online.

Taylor Swift has weighed in on the debate surrounding Team USA skier Breezy Johnson and her surprise Olympic proposal.

Johnson got engaged to her longtime boyfriend, Connor Watkins, on Thursday at the finish line in Cortina d’Ampezzo. The proposal happened just after Johnson crashed during the women’s super-G final and missed winning another medal. A few days earlier, she won gold in the downhill event, becoming only the second American woman to do it after Lindsey Vonn.

The emotional scene was quick enough to get going. Johnson shared photos on Instagram that showed Watkins down on one knee. She also posted a close-up of her ring box. The box carried lyrics from Swift’s 2024 song “The Alchemy” from her album The Tortured Poets Department. The inscription read, “Honestly, who are we to fight the alchemy?”

Swift did not stay quiet. She jumped into the comment section with a message that mixed humor and support.“‘Where’s the trophy? He just comes running over to me’ CONGRATULATIONS!!!” she wrote, quoting her own lyrics.

Johnson replied with equal excitement. “I don’t know what’s better, Olympic gold or this comment. Sourdough engagement gift please???? would love to teach you to ski,” she wrote.

Swift’s reaction gained extra attention because she got engaged last August when Travis Kelce proposed to her.

Fans Clash Over Timing Of Proposal

While many fans flooded Johnson’s post with congratulations, others criticized the timing. Some argued that Watkins overshadowed her athletic moment.

One user wrote on X, “I’m happy for Breezy Johnson but I have strong opinions about men hijacking a woman’s major milestones to propose. Just let HER have that moment dude!”

Another added, “Only a narcissist would try to make your day about them.”

Another questioned whether the proposal added pressure after a crash. “Romantic timing or massive pressure move? Congrats to them, but I’d hate the added spotlight when I’m already emotionally raw,” one user wrote.

Johnson pushed back against that idea in comments to NBC News. She said she always dreamed of an Olympic proposal. “I mean, that was my hope!” she said. She admitted she pictured it after winning gold. Still, she said the real moment felt even better. “The reality of it is so different than the way you imagined, and so much better,” she said.

Johnson now plans to celebrate with family and friends in Cortina before heading to Livigno for more events.
