The NFL season has fans getting hyped up for their favorite teams to take one another during opening week, which begins on Thursday. Part of the week one action will see the Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams take on the Detroit Lions.
The game is a rematch of the 2024 Wildcard match-up, in which the Lions beat the Rams 24-23 in a close and entertaining game. Stofford’s wife, Kelly, was one of the NFL fans in attendance in Detroit last season.
According to Kelly, this game will reportedly be a different situation as she and her daughters will not be attending the 2024 NFL week one game due to the controversial welcome they received at the game in January.
Kelly Stafford claimed she and their two daughters were booed when Matt returned to Detroit to take on the Lions. It was his first game back in the Motor City after taking on and beating the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2022 Super Bowl.
Kelly Stafford Sites Mental Health As The Reason For Skipping The Rams Week One Match-up In Detroit
Kelly Stafford announced her plans on “The Morning After” podcast, commenting, “Physically, I am not [attending],” adding, “After our amazing, amazing live show, I’m going to hop on a plane and head home, so I can watch it with my daughters here, so that’s the plan.”
Stafford also added that the choice was left up to her two daughters, who ultimately decided that it was best for them to stay home to watch their father take on his former squad, where he played parts of 12 seasons.
Kelly also told the New York Post, “…There’s a lot that goes into it… but I just think it’s the better decision for my mental health and for my daughters.” So fans can expect not to see Kelly and the rest of the Stafford gang on the TV when Matt goes to battle in Detroit.
