Fans mock Russell Wilson’s cringeworthy new catchphrase for the Steelers ahead of injury return

Russell Wilson has left fans cringing after coming up with a new catchphrase for the Pittsburgh Steelers ahead of his return from injury.

Wilson, 35, is yet to line up in a competitive game for the Steelers seven months after signing a one-year contract in Pittsburgh for the veteran’s minimum of $1.2million.

The Super Bowl-winning quarterback has been recovering from a calf injury sustained ahead of their Week 1 fixture at the Atlanta Falcons, yet is expected to be available for this weekend’s trip to the Las Vegas Raiders.

And as he prepares to finally return from injury, in typical fashion Wilson has created yet another catchphrase for his new team: ‘Win The 7th’.

NBC’s Melissa Stark revealed his latest mantra during the broadcast for the Steelers’ 20-17 defeat to the Dallas Cowboys, a game which helped create NFL history.

The seventh is a reference to Pittsburgh’s number of Super Bowl titles, with the franchise hunting No 7 in the 2024 season.

However, fans couldn’t resist mocking Wilson over his new catchphrase, having seen his famous ‘Let’s Ride’ slogan backfire in a disastrous stint with the Denver Broncos.

One user wrote on X: ‘F****ng cringe’.

Another commented: ‘Corniest dude in nfl. Qb drama incoming.’

‘Such a douche. I’m tired of him already,’ said a third.

While one simply put: ‘No no no no’.

Wilson’s ‘Let’s Ride’ catchphrase aged terribly in Denver, where he struggled for two miserable seasons after promptly signing a five-year, $245 million contract extension.

The former Broncos quarterback's last catchphrase certainly did not age well in Denver

The ex-Seahawks star failed to replicate the form which guided Seattle to Super Bowl glory in 2013, before the Broncos were forced to release him and take a staggering $85m hit in dead money.

He is now competing with the talented Justin Fields, 25, for the starting quarterback role in Pittsburgh, with his younger colleague throwing for 961 yards and five touchdowns so far this season.

But after Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys, head coach Mike Tomlin now has a big decision to make heading into Sunday’s trip to the Raiders with Wilson believed to be available.
