Patti Smith Makes Bold Reference to Taylor Swift Song After Being Name-Dropped on Pop Star’s Latest Album
Patti Smith gave a subtle nod to Taylor Swift during her latest live performance.
The 77-year-old musician and poet recently put on a show in Dublin, Ireland, when she referenced Swift’s latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, which famously mentions Smith by name in the lyrics.
In the title track of TTPD, Swift, 34, sings, “You’re not Dylan Thomas, I’m not Patti Smith / This ain’t the Chelsea Hotel / We’re modern idiots.”
In fan-captured footage of Smith’s recent performance, she told the audience “I’m no Dylan Thomas, but I am Patti Smith,” prompting a roar of cheers from the crowd.

“And this ain’t the Chelsea hotel,” the user on X who shared the video captioned the post.
“ICONIC LMAO,” one fan wrote after seeing the clip of Smith, while someone else labeled her a “Queen” for the reference to Swift.
“legend!!!!!” another fan gushed on X.
Smith already addressed Swift name-drop in TTPD shortly after the album came out in April.
Taking to Instagram to share a photo of herself reading a work by Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, Smith wrote, “This is saying I was moved to be mentioned in the company of the great Welsh poet Dylan Thomas.”
“Thank you Taylor,” she added.

Swift’s latest album has been known to include a few notable name-drops, including Charlie Puth, Stevie Nicks and even Swift herself.
The 14-time Grammy winner—who mentions Nicks, 76, by name in the track “Clara Bow”—performed the song live with the Fleetwood Mac songstress in the audience at one of the Eras Tour concerts in Dublin last week.
