Roger Goodell Was Asked About Taylor Swift Becoming An NFL Owner, And His Answer Was An Interesting One

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is fully on board with the idea of Grammy Award-winning singer Taylor Swift joining a team ownership group.

Taylor Swift has been in a highly publicized relationship with Kansas City Chiefs superstar tight end Travis Kelce for over a year. Swift attended 13 Chiefs games in 2023, including their Super Bowl 58 victory over the San Francisco 49ers, and made it to three of their first five games this season.

Swift’s romance with Swift has naturally led to speculation that she may want to add “NFL owner” to her resume. She has a net worth of over $1 billion, and Kelce’s connections across the league could only help her chances of securing a stake in an NFL club.

Per Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, the commissioner was asked if Taylor Swift has been approached about following Tom Brady’s footsteps into the world of NFL ownership (Brady is now officially a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders). And Goodell made it clear that he supports the idea if she’s keen on it.

“If she’s interested, I think she has the ability to do it,” Goodell said.

Brady isn’t the only notable celebrity who has a stake in a professional sports franchise. Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is a part owner of the Boston Red Sox and Liverpool FC.

Will Smith and actor Jada Pinkett Smith also have stakes in his hometown team, the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers. Former controversial MLB star Alex Rodriguez is also part of the Minnesota Timberwolves’ ownership group.

Regarding current pro athletes? Aaron Rodgers has a stake in the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks, and Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is part owner of the Kansas City Royals and Sporting Kansas City.

Taylor Swift Has The Money To Do So

Swift certainly wouldn’t want to spend all of her money on becoming the full owner of one NFL franchise, but the legendary music artist has the cash and resources to purchase a minority stake if she wants to do so. If her and Kelce stay together, who knows? Maybe Clark Hunt would sell part of the Chiefs ownership stake to the singer who helped bring even more publicity and global following to his franchise.
