Caleb Farley’s road back to an official NFL roster spot is complete, as he signed with the Carolina Panthers on Monday.
The move to Carolina’s full-time active roster with seven games left in the regular season comes less than 15 months after his father, Robert Farley, died in a gas explosion at his son’s home in North Carolina.
The elder Farley had moved in with his soon, who bought the home with his first NFL contract. after his own wife passed away in 2018. Robert was 61 when he passed.
Farley had been with the Panthers for the last several weeks as a practice squad member and had been elevated to a member of the 53-man roster for three recent games.
Farley is back permanently on an NFL roster for the first time in two years, as his first three years in the NFL with the Titans was disrupted several times with injuries.
In his previous games with the Panthers, Farley has worn No 31 as a tribute to his father’s high school jersey number.
The former first-round draft pick has a stiff test after his elevation to Carolina’s full-time roster against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
The Iredell County (North Carolina) Fire Marshal’s Office released a report, according to WSOC-TV, following an investigation into the incident, determining that the explosion was caused by a natural gas explosion.
Investigators believe that the explosion was an accident, which started in a bedroom but the exact point of origin was unknown.
The house was listed for $2million in 2022 and built in 2016. It had four bedrooms and four bathrooms. Due to the explosion, the house was considered a total loss.
