“Totally Insane Scenario” Could See The New England Patriots Trade Drake Maye & Replace Him With Shedeur Sanders & Travis Hunter While Also Hiring Deion Sanders, According To Popular NFL Analyst

A popular NFL analyst proposed a totally bonkers scenario that would see the New England Patriots land Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders, quarterback Shedeur Sanders and two-way phenom Travis Hunter.

If the Patriots lose to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, they’ll secure the first overall pick. Shedeur Sanders is the consensus favorite to be taken with the No. 1 selection in 2025, but the Patriots already used the No. 3 pick of 2024 on the promising Drake Maye.

Should New England win the No. 1 selection, the two most likely scenarios are: Trade it to the highest bidder (a team that likely wants Shedeur Sanders) or use the pick on the best non-QB prospect, potentially Travis Hunter.

But Nick Wright of FOX Sports 1 proposed a wild scenario that would see the Patriots pull off something even more complicated than stopping the T-1000 in Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

In Wright’s proposed scenario, the Patriots would use the No. 1 pick on Shedeur and trade Maye for a top-five selection that would allow them to draft Hunter. Then to put a cherry on top of it all, the Pats would fire Jerod Mayo and hire Prime Time to coach his son and Hunter.

Trading Maye and drafting Shedeur Sanders would be similar to what the Arizona Cardinals did in 2019. Unable to resist taking Kyler Murray first-overall that year, they traded Josh Rosen (the No. 10 pick of 2018) to the Miami Dolphins.

But before Patriots fans can dream of a Shedeur scenario, first thing’s first: The Patriots actually need to lose to the Bills, who will likely rest key starters after locking up the second seed, to obtain the first pick.

Shedeur Sanders Had A Phenomenal Final Year Of College

Proving last year was no fluke, Sanders elevated his game to another level by tossing 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns against only 10 interceptions in 2024. The 2025 draft isn’t considered deep for quarterbacks, but Sanders certainly has the skill set to be a franchise-changing QB in this league.
