Troy Aikman and Lamar Jackson might be heading into a court battle, but it appears the older man would like to avoid legal proceedings as he’s made an excellent suggestion that might see them settle things amicably.
Both quarterbacks are linked to the No. 8, with Aikman wearing it during his playing days and Jackson wearing it right now.
Turns out, they’re both looking to sell eight-themed merchandise.
Jackson has already gotten the ball rolling, with his attorney claiming the Ravens star “has expended considerable time, effort, and expense in promoting, advertising, and popularizing the number 8 in connection with his personality and fame” and “is well-known by this number due to his notoriety and fame, along with his promotion of this number in his trademarks and in media coverage.”
Aikman, meanwhile, is calling for a sitdown, having taken to social media to suggest that they get together over EIGHT Beers, with Steve Young, who also wore the No. 8, to arbitr8.
Yeah, he missed the opportunity for a neat pun there. We would never…
“Hey Lamar – looks like a worthy conversation over a couple of cold EIGHT beers! Maybe Steve Young can arbitrate??” the ESPN commentator tweeted.

EIGHT Beers happen to be among Aikman’s products, but fans still loved the idea.
“Good call,” one agreed.
“Can we get this on ESPN?” another asked.
“Love this!!! Here’s an 8 to you Troy!!!” a third commented.

Troy Aikman & Lamar Jackson Both Have Legitim8 Claims
Both men have rights to the No. 8, and Troy Aikman may feel like he should have the edge because he played with it first. However, Lamar Jackson is believed to have filed his trademarks first.
In any case, one uses “8” while the other uses “EIGHT,” but Jackson’s lawyer reckons it would cause confusion.
Hopefully, they meet up and sort it out over some cold ones.
