The Kansas City Chiefs tight end has been one of the most talked-about figures in the sporting world ever since he began dating pop icon Taylor Swift in 2023.
But the 35-year-old – who has responded to speculation that he could retire after the game – has backed up the attention with his performances, helping his team reach the NFL’s showpiece for the fourth time in six years.
Kelce has a standout performance as the Chiefs – led by superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes – saw off the Houston Texans in the divisional round of the playoffs two weeks ago, logging 117 receiving yards and a touchdown.
“New Orleans, Lousiana. Takes me back. I owe New Orleans a little something,” Kelce said, referencing the city where the Chiefs will face the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.
“We know where you’re gonna be,” his mother shot back as Swift stood alongside Kelce. “We know your history.”
Kelce’s mum, Donna, was alluding to the time the football star tested positive for marijuana in 2010 while a college player for the University of Cincinnati Bearcats in the lead-up to the Sugar Bowl game in the Louisiana city. He was banned from the game and suspended for the entirety of the following season.
“I won’t be having as much fun as I did before,” Kelce said.
“No, you won’t!” Donna replied.
“No grenades!” Kelce added.
The Chiefs have the opportunity to become the first team in NFL history to win a “threepeat” of back-to-back-to-back Super Bowl titles.
