Luigi Mangione Breaks His Silence From Prison Following His Arrest For Gunning Down UnitedHealthcare CEO

Luigi Mangione has broken his silence from prison following his arrest for the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

The 26-year-old is behind bars while he fights the matter in court. This week, he sent a message to the people who have been showing him support via his website.

Mangione said he was grateful to all the people who wrote letters to him, though he hasn’t been able to respond to everyone.

“I am overwhelmed by—and grateful for—everyone who has written me to share their stories and express their support,” he said in a statement. “Powerfully, this support has transcended political, racial, and even class divisions, as mail has flooded MDC [the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn] from across the country, and around the globe.

“While it is impossible for me to reply to most letters, please know that I read every one that I receive. Thank you again to everyone who took the time to write. I look forward to hearing more in the future.”

The site in question was created by Mangione’s legal team to provide information on the case.

“Due to the extraordinary volume of inquiries and outpouring of support,” his lawyers said, “this site was created and is maintained by Luigi Mangione’s New York legal defense team to provide answers to frequently asked questions, accurate information about his cases, and dispel misinformation.”
