MyKayla Skinner‘s recent comments stirred controversy when she was critical of the United States female gymnastics team competing at the Paris Olympics.
The statement ignited backlash, leading several gymnasts, including Simone Biles, Suni Lee, Jade Carey, Jocelyn Roberson, and Jordan Chiles, to block her on social media.
“But besides Simone, I feel like the talent and depth just isn’t what it used to be,” Skinner explained.
This situation raises an important question: Is the rest of the gymnastics team up to par without Simone Biles?
US Gymnastics shining in Paris
On July 28th, the United States dominated the qualifying event with a total score of 172.296 points, far ahead of Italy, China, and Brazil. Despite a calf injury from a rough landing during floor warm-ups, Simone Biles achieved the highest overall score of the day with 59.566, securing first place and a spot in the finals.
Teammate Suni Lee also advanced, finishing second with a score of 56.132, followed by Jordan Chiles in third with 56.065.
With only two gymnasts from each country allowed to advance to the individual all-around final, the competition is intense. The women’s team all-around final on July 29th will determine who advances to Paris.
These performances directly challenge MyKayla Skinner‘s claim that “the girls just don’t have the work ethic.”
Clearly, the gymnasts have proven their dedication and talent. Celebrities and athletes, including Nick Jonas and Claire Little, have congratulated Chiles and her team, showcasing widespread support and admiration.
In contrast, MyKayla Skinner has remained silent for over 24 hours, not posting on Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, or TikTok, and offering no congratulations or comments for Team USA.
This silence raises questions about whether she still stands by her earlier remarks and if her previous apology was sincere.
