Donald Trump is receiving widepsread criticism, including from vocal supporter Dave Portnoy, over another golf controversy.
President Trump’s ill-fated decision to place 10-percent tariffs on all imports entering the United States has caused concern about a potential recession. The decision has also the stock markets to plunge significantly, but the President doesn’t seem the least bit worried about it at all.
Per Tom D’Angelo of The Palm Beach Post, Donald Trump bragged to reporters that he won another golf tournament at his home course in Jupiter, Florida.
“Very good (the tournament), because I won, Trump said, per D’Angelo. “It’s good to win. You heard I won, right? Did you hear I won? I like to win.”
Barstool Sports owner and founder Dave Portnoy, who endorsed Trump in the last two presidential elections, expressed disappointment in the 78-year-old playing golf amid the market crash:
“I didn’t love seeing him on the golf course playing his course championship and being like, ‘I’m a very low handicap.’The stock market is getting crushed. I’ve lost 20 percent of my net worth. And you’re out on the golf course.
“Like in my mind, Donald Trump just cost me 20 million with whatever he did. Maybe don’t be on the golf course. Because I’m curled up in a ball in bed sweating.”
Many others expressed outrage over President Donald Trump golfing during a tense time in the United States.
“Donald Trump is an 80 year old man that paints his face orange and cheats at golf. There’s no 8 dimensional chess game going on,” said a user.
“Trump’s tariffs are a disaster! Markets are collapsing, $6.6 trillion is lost, and he’s still playing golf? This ‘golden age’ is a global joke,” said another.
“While the global economy is in free fall from Trump’s ill-conceived tariffs he played golf Instead of honoring fallen soldiers he played golf. Instead of trying to reassure Americans he played golf,” wrote a user.
“To all the Republican Voters out there. How do you feel about Trump on a golf course while these 4 servicemen are brought home in caskets. He is disgusting and so disrespectful to all veterans. 🙏🏼🇺🇸,” another wrote.
“Trump continues to play golf while the Stock Market lost trillions of $ last week. Hey MAGA voters, how are your 401k accounts doing. You are the ones responsible for this collapse. When will you learn the Diaper wearing Psychopath does not care about you. You were played.🤡,” wrote a fan.
“Don Old Trump created all the debt from when he was So-called President for 4 long years previously. maybe, he should personally pay for that money. How much waste of National Debt is he creating with playing golf constantly? That is what he should personally pay for,” said a user.
President Trump was often vocal of how often Barack Obama golfed during his time in the White House. The 45th and 47th President, however, has golfed significantly more than Obama during his time in office.
Trump hasn’t at all indicated that he’ll consider lowering the tariffs or scrapping them altogether. Not that the criticism bothers the 78-year-old, who was too joyful celebrating his latest golf victory.
Donald Trump’s Second Presidential Term Remains Mired In Controversy
Like his first presidential term, Trump hasn’t been able to escape significant controversy or backlash during his second go as POTUS. He caused significant international tensions by his decisions to begin trade wars with Canada and Mexico, two of the USA’s greatest allies.
His tense meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House in February also raised beliefs (particularly from the left) that Trump prioritizes his friendship with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
