Westbrook declined his $3.4 million player option on June 13, becoming a free agent. This decision sparked a wave of speculation regarding his future in the league. Several NBA analysts are sharing their opinions on potential landing spots for him. Recently, Westbrook fueled these speculations through his interaction with DeMar DeRozan, a star player for the Sacramento Kings.
Westbrook and DeRozan recently appeared courtside at the Los Angeles Sparks vs. Las Vegas Aces game. During halftime, they were seen engaged in an intense conversation. When a clip of their meeting surfaced on social media, it fueled rumours about Westbrook potentially joining the Kings.
Westbrook has been linked to the Kings as a top free agent target. If he signs this offseason, they would join forces in Sacramento.
REPORT: Sacramento Considering Trading Two Key Players Before Signing Westbrook

The Sacramento Kings experienced disappointment in the 2024-25 NBA season. They finished 9th in the Western Conference standings with a 40-42 record. The team participated in the Play-In Tournament in an attempt to secure a playoff spot, but their journey ended with a 106-120 loss to the Dallas Mavericks.
Following this outcome, the Kings are looking to improve their roster by acquiring key free agents in the offseason. Their primary target is reportedly Russell Westbrook. Recently, Matt George revealed that the Kings are considering trading Devin Carter or Malik Monk before bringing in Westbrook.
“On the Kings/Russell Westbrook front: Both parties have been talking and have had mutual interest since free agency began. That’s been well known. From what I gather, the Kings are still looking to move a player like Devin Carter or Malik Monk before they can bring Westbrook in. The Kings have a log jam at the guard position and very little financial flexibility to work with,” George wrote in his recent reports.
During the 2024-25 NBA season, Russell Westbrook averaged 13.3 points, 6.1 assists, and 4.9 rebounds while playing 75 games for the Denver Nuggets.
