Kelly Clarkson Suffers Double Tragedy After Brandon Blackstock’s Death

The news comes shortly after Clarkson announced she was postponing the remaining dates of her August Las Vegas residency.

The singer and TV host revealed that Blackstock had been ill, breaking her usual privacy to share the personal news.

“Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas,” the American Idol star wrote on Instagram.

“While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill, and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them.

“I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows. I so appreciate your grace, kindness, and understanding.”

But shortly after this statement was posted, it was announced that the talent manager had died, following a three-year battle with cancer.

In a statement, a rep for the family told People: “It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away.

“Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family.

“We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”

Clarkson and Blackstock married in October 2013 in an intimate Tennessee ceremony.

They went on to welcome two children together – daughter River in 2014 and son Remington in 2016, but first split in 2020 after nearly seven years of marriage, and officially finalized their messy divorce two years later.

Blackstock also had two older children, Savannah and Seth, from his previous marriage to Melissa Ashworth.

But losing her ex-husband isn’t the only tragic part for Clarkson, it’s that her children have lost their dad.

Clarkson, 43, has had her world flipped ‘upside down,’ according to a source speaking to Radar.

They said: “Kelly’s life has flipped upside down with Brandon’s cancer struggles and now death.

“She’s been blessed with an incredible career and life, but once her marriage ended and once Brandon’s health started dwindling, it has been very rough.”

They added: “For her kids to go through this is just absolutely devastating.”

No specific details regarding the type of cancer Blackstock suffered have been revealed.

Helping her children through the grief is an unimaginable pain.

The source noted: “She feels both a little lost and feels like she has to do everything to make it all make sense.”

It’s also been reported that Blackstock was preparing to celebrate becoming a grandfather for the second time, before his untimely death at age 48.

His daughter, Savannah, revealed her second pregnancy in July, just weeks before her father’s death.
