Maurice Hawkins has had a legendary career playing poker, but not everyone respects it during a high-intensity card game where money can change hands quickly.
Hawkins currently holds the record for both earnings and titles on the World Series of Poker Circuit. None of that helped him during a recent poker game that was held at someone’s home.
The poker pro and 21-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) Circuit ring winner was brutally assaulted in a private poker game, according to a video obtained by PokerNews this week.
The footage, which was shown anonymously, shows Hawkins being punched several times as he held onto a man’s midsection for dear life in an attempt to take him down. It did not work.
Maurice Hawkins took at least five punches before other men moved in to separate them.
More Information On Maurice Hawkins Being Attacked
Ego, combined with money, can easily turn a situation violent, as seen in the video above. Former NFL star Adrian Peterson was caught on camera fighting another man at a poker club earlier this year.
The source, who was a player in the game, further added that Hawkins is required to pay up front to play in the game, while other players are allowed to play on credit.
A second player in the poker game told the outlet that it was “a totally unprovoked attack” by a player named Eugene that had nothing to do with a poker hand or Hawkins’ alleged poker debts.
“Maurice and I said we were of African American nationality, and Eugene said that’s not a nationality; he googled it,” Rock said to the outlet.
“And Maurice was (like) so what. What you wanna do Box about it and Eugene walked from the 2 seat to the 7 seat and started punching Maurice while he was sitting down.”
On Thanksgiving, Maurice Hawkins took to social media to post about the incident, sharing footage of him confronting the player after being assaulted.
“The Narratives are hilarious,” Hawkins wrote on X.
“A guy tried to sucker punch me and sneak attack me. While I am in my seat. Then you post I got my ass whoop. F—ing hilarious. What you think happens. If I don’t get grabbed. When I got to my feet. Here you go. The truth of what happened.”
Hawkins has raked in lifetime wins worth more than $4,000,000 since 2005.
