Taylor Swift is revealing the gruesome reality behind her Eras Tour quick changes.
In episode 3 of Taylor Swift: The End of an Era, titled, “Kismet,” which dropped on Friday, Dec. 19, the singer, 36, recalled the “complicated” process of her numerous backstage costume changes, all of which took place in under two minutes.
Taylor shares one harrowing story from a quick change after the Evermore portion of the show.
“I trip over the hem of my dress. Bust my knee,” she recalls. “I skid the palm of my hand off. Hobble into the quick-change room. Blood’s coming down my hand. I’m changing into the Reputation bodysuit, the skin that’s flapping off, I just pull it off, more blood. They don’t have a Band-Aid back there.”
Still, the star “wasn’t late. Wasn’t late for the intro of that song.”
The Grammy winner adds that fans noticed the injury “a couple days later.”
“They’re like, ‘Oh, her palm’s gone,'” she says.
“I was like, I am not acknowledging this. What? Nothing’s wrong. That’s always been like that,” Taylor jokes.

According to crew member Jestina O’Dell, Swift’s fastest quick change during the Eras Tour was just 39 seconds, while Taylor’s stylist Joseph Cassell notes the singer had “like 20 quick changes.”
“Our crew helped us build four quick-change booths,” O’Dell says. “From there, we kind of travel through the underworld of the stage. It’s all very, very fast. We don’t really have time for snags. It’s very choreographed. Every second counts. Every millisecond counts.”
“Those quick changes are like nothing you’ve ever seen before. It is like watching a NASCAR race,” her mom, Andrea Swift, says of the time crunch.
Meanwhile, Swift admits: “There were moments where I thought, ‘I don’t know if these costume changes are gonna happen in time.’ I’m only off the stage for a maximum of two minutes at a time.”

The singer calls the quick changes “the most complicated system,” adding, “You have no idea the panic of worrying you’re not gonna be dressed in time for the song to start and it is that panic that drives me to never be late.”
Swift’s 3-hour and 13-minute Eras Tour set took fans through her extensive music catalog with a 44-song setlist, paying tribute to her discography with custom outfits.
Some pieces were inspired by her different eras (the dazzling Versace bodysuit during the opener encapsulates her Lover aesthetic), while other looks are direct references to past tours, including her Roberto Cavalli two-piece for her 1989 set and Nicole + Felicia gown for Speak Now.
