Jake Paul Goes to Hospital with Broken Jaw After Losing to Anthony Joshua in Heavyweight Fight

Jake Paul is receiving treatment for a broken jaw after losing his bout with Anthony Joshua.

The YouTuber, 28, and former unified heavyweight champion, 36, were scheduled to go eight rounds at the Kaseya Center in Miami on Friday, Dec. 19. Having knocked down Paul four times during the heavyweight fight, Joshua finally landed a hard right punch on Paul during the sixth round, securing his win, per ESPN and Sky Sports.

This is Paul’s second loss in his fighting career and his first by knockout. He posted an X-ray on Instagram as he revealed the boxing match left his jaw broken in two places.

“Broken jaw guys. Thanks for all the support I’m ok 👍🏽,” he wrote in another post discussing his injury.

The fight lasted longer than some anticipated, with Paul appearing energetic for the first half and avoiding as much major contact from Joshua as possible, per ESPN.

He gradually became tired, having been knocked down multiple times and getting up twice in the fifth round. He threw an overhand right in Joshua’s direction, but was knockedout by the fighting champion in the end.

“Jake done well while it lasted… but fighting is not just physical, it’s psychological,” Joshua said at a press conference after the match. “I did say to Jake, ‘What’s going to happen is I’m going to see a time when I’m going to take your soul and you’re either going to give up or get knocked out.’ ”

Referee Christopher Young holds US boxer and influencer Jake Paul against the ropes during his fight against British boxer Anthony Joshua (off frame) in a non-title heavyweight bout at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida, on December 19, 2025.

“There was a lot riding on this fight, a lot of pressure, a lot of expectations, so I had to perform — a lot of people doubt me,” Joshua said elsewhere in the post-fight interview. “…I took Jake as seriously as I needed to, but most importantly, I took myself as seriously as I needed to. I respect myself, I respect boxing and I know what it takes to get in the ring. You have to be prepared and one slip-up could cost you in that ring.”

Despite winning, Joshua said the match “wasn’t the best performance.”

“The end goal was to get him, pin him down and hurt him. That’s what people wanted, that was on my mind. It took longer than expected,” he said.

“You have to give Jake his respect for trying, trying and trying,” he added.
