NFL fans are losing their minds over an interesting graphic of Las Vegas Raiders tight end Darren Waller in a new commercial.
A new TV ad during the Buffalo Bills-Miami Dolphins “Thursday Night Football” Game at Hard Rock Stadium. In the new commercial, Darren Waller was curiously labeled as an “NFL legend.”

Now with all due respect to the Georgia Tech product, this isn’t someone who can realistically be considered an NFL legend. In 86 career games, he had 350 receptions for 4,124 yards and 20 touchdowns.
Predictably, social media had all sorts of things to say over Darren Waller being marked as an “NFL legend” in that commercial:
Legend as in “he’s talked about, but nobody’s really sure he existed”

This is like when any pro athlete is involved in a non-sports news story and they automatically become “(insert team here) star” even if they’re like third string.

The 32-year-old Waller was drafted in the sixth round (204th overall) by the Baltimore Ravens in 2015. He made just 18 game appearances (only four starts) in his time there and caught 12 passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns.
The Raiders signed Darren Waller late in the 2018 season, and he emerged as a star in his first full year with the organization. Waller caught 90 passes for 1,145 yards and three touchdowns, emerging as a star in Jon Gruden’s offense.
Waller followed it up with a career year in 2020 and earned his lone Pro Bowl nod after catching 107 passes for 1,196 yards and nine touchdowns. Unfortunately, Waller never got close to those star-like numbers again.
Darren Waller Was A Two-Year Wonder In The NFL
Waller was a superstar tight end for two years with the Raiders, but he was not a legend in any way, shape or form. During 2019 and 2020, nobody was putting him in the same class as Travis Kelce.
After being limited to 20 games over the 2021 and 2022 seasons, Waller was traded to the New York Giants. But his final NFL season was underwhelming, with Waller catching only 52 passes for 552 yards and one touchdown.
That, folks, is not an NFL legend.
