Ryan Murphy has given fans an insight into how Travis Kelce handled his acting debut ahead of the launch of their FX show ‘Grotesquerie’ this week.
Things are not going well for Kelce on the football field right now after he gave a performance in Kansas City’s win over Atlanta on Sunday night that led some fans and analysts to suggest he retire.
But the tight end is about to embark on a new chapter of his career as he continues to prepare for life after the NFL.
Kelce stars in the horror fiction ‘Grotesquerie’ alongside Niecy Nash-Betts, Courtney B. Vance, Lesley Manville, Micaela Diamond, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, and Raven Goodwin.
The pilot episode will premiere on FX on Wednesday at 10pm ET and the series will consist of 10 episodes that will be available for streaming one day later on Hulu.
Esteemed TV writer and director Murphy, who has created a number of hit series and also worked with Kim Kardashian on a different project, revealed that he wrote Kelces part specifically for him.
He also revealed that Kelce worked with an acting coach for several months and turned up knowing everybodys lines.
Murphy said: We were talking about his future and what does he want to do after football season, and I was just kind of giving him some fatherly advice.
I always have a motto in my world and in my work, that a star is a star is a star. It doesnt matter what field youre a star in. If you have that charisma, you are going to bring it to whatever you do.
He showed up off book. He knew everybodys lines. He was so professional. He was so committed. He kept saying to me, “Im real coachable, coach me, coach me”.
So I did, and he ended up being a delight. I would love to continue working with him on this and other things.
I cannot say enough about him as a leader. Hes just the kindest, sweetest. Everything you think about him is true.
While his character in the series is yet to be revealed, Kelce provided the intro for the official trailer before appearing twice in the teaser.
In his lone line in the trailer, Kelces character monotonously says Theres no future after this. He then reappears near the trailers conclusion for a split second.
Kelces involvement in the series first surfaced in May, shortly after he signed a two-year, $35.24million extension with the Chiefs.
Ahead of the premiere, Nash explained why Kelce will enjoy plenty of further success in the acting business after being left pleasantly surprised by his talent.
I think that hes gonna do very, very well, the award-winning actress told TMZ Sports about Travis Hollywood future.
I mean, hes the type of personality that whatever he decides to do is gonna be great.
Kelces TV debut comes amid mounting scrutiny over his performances for the Chiefs. He played a peripheral role again on Sunday night as they extended their perfect start to the season to 3-0 with a 22-17 win over the Falcons.
The 34-year-old, whose girlfriend Taylor Swift missed a game for the first time this season, was caught by TV cameras looking particularly miserable on the sideline in a clip which went viral.
Kelce, a three-time Super Bowl champion, only had four catches for 30 yards in Atlanta as his sluggish start to the season continued after similar performances against the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals.
NBCs lead analyst Cris Collinsworth admitted he was flabbergasted by Kelce on Sunday night, having also watched him struggle in week one against the Ravens.
Rodney Harrison, another NBC analyst, blamed Kelces latest lackluster performance on his other commitments.
