Patrick Mahomes‘ final plays in the dying minutes of the Kansas City Chiefs‘ win over the New Orleans Saints Monday night proved to be brutal for one fantasy football player.
The quarterback completed 28 of 39 passes for 331 yards with no touchdowns, one interception and rushed six times for 22 yards to lead the Chiefs to a 26-13 win over the Saints at Arrowhead.
However, that wasn’t enough to help one fan seal the win in his NFL fantasy football matchup this week.
Heading into the final possession of the game with just under two minutes left, Mahomes had three rushing attempts for 25 yards.
However, the three-time Super Bowl winner needed to run the clock down, and to do so, Mahomes made a few sacrifices.
On the final three snaps of the game, he dropped back on kneel downs for a loss of one yard each time, seeing his rushing yards drop to 22.
While that was good enough to seal the win for the Chiefs, one fantasy football fan wasn’t so lucky.
‘Losing by 0.1 on Mahomes kneel downs is just unfair,’ Mo Banks wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, alongside a grab of his fantasy matchup.
The screenshot showed the fan missing out to his opponent 131.84-131.94, with Mahomes’ kneel downs costing him a total of 0.3 points.
Banks wasn’t the only one as other NFL fans raged on social media after the signal caller also cost them a victory.
‘Just lost my fantasy game bc Mahomes took three knees BRUTAL,’ one user posted.
‘Patrick Mahomes just made me loose cuz that pick and 3 kneels at the end of the game I’m sick,’ another added.
However, it worked in others’ favor with some competitors finding themselves on the winning end of the situation.
‘OMG (barring a stat correction not in my favor) Patrick Mahomes kneeling down to win the game helped me win my week,’ one fan wrote in glee.
‘Just won my fantasy matchup cause Mahomes taking 3 knees to end the game,’ another smugly chimed in.
Touchdowns from Kareem Hunt and Xavier Worthy and some trusty kicking from Harrison Butker meant the Super Bowl champions extended their unbeaten start to the campaign.
Kareem Hunt also produced a promising display with 102 yards and JuJu Smith-Schuster contributed with 130, including a 51-yard gain late on when the Saints were starting to threaten.
A resurgent Travis Kelce was back to his usual production, proving to be a reliable target for Mahomes and hauling in nine receptions for 70 yards.
