T.J. Holmes had to quit participating in the Chicago Marathon after suffering an injury that left him in an ambulance on Sunday.
The former “GMA3” co-host was running the annual race with his girlfriend, Amy Robach, when he had to leave around mile 21.
Holmes posted a photo on Instagram of himself in his marathon gear while lying down in a stretcher as an emergency medical technician treated him.
“So, this happened. Full story to come,” he captioned the post, adding the hashtag #DNF, which stands for “did not finish.”
Holmes also shared a video on his Instagram Story of his legs strapped into the stretcher.
Robach, who withdrew from the marathon to go to the hospital with her partner, supported Holmes by sitting next to him inside the ambulance.
“Mile 21 and the Achilles gave out,” she wrote on her Instagram Story.
Achilles tendinitis commonly occurs in runners who have suddenly increased the intensity or duration of their runs, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Holmes, 47, and Robach, 51, are both avid runners and fell in love while training for the New York City Half Marathon in 2022.
Prior to his injury, Holmes shared Instagram Stories of him and Robach running together, people holding signs and the markers showing how many miles they had run so far.
