San Francisco 49ers star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is officially done for the season after he tore his ACL on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Aiyuk is half of one of the most daunting wide-receiver duos in the NFL, alongside Deebo Samuel, who is also currently hospitalized with pneumonia.
Now, Aiyuk’s injury adds to a growing list of concerns for the 49ers, who fell to 3-4 with the loss to the Chiefs.
Aiyuk’s offseason was a rollercoaster with the 49ers, as contract negotiations went on between the wide receiver and the franchise.
For months, the 49ers held firm on their offer and did not give Aiyuk what he wanted for an extension.
Aiyuk posted a video to social media FaceTimeing Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels where he listed Washington and the Pittsburgh Steelers has his preferred destinations should things not work out in San Francisco.
Eventually, Aiyuk got the market rate and received a four-year, $120million deal.
The contract also comes with $76million guaranteed and was front-loaded with Aiyuk set to make at least $47million before he touches an NFL field again.
The 49ers entered the season as one of the NFC’s favorites to get back to the Super Bowl.
Seven weeks into the NFL season and several teams appear better positioned to make a playoff run than the defending NFC champions.
The Packers, Lions, Vikings, and Commanders have all looked dominant this season in ways the 49ers have not.
San Francisco has another tough test coming up on Sunday night, facing an old rival in the Dallas Cowboys.
