The Detroit Lions are currently one of the best teams in the NFL. If it wasn’t already believed, they only proved it to be confirmed on a game-winning field goal by Jake Bates, handing the Minnesota Vikings their first season loss on Sunday.
Bates has been one of the best kickers in 2024, and he is only a rookie, which is quite exciting for the Detroit faithful. The 25-year-old kicker has not missed a field this season, as he is 10/10 in the category.
However, his life hasn’t always been this fruitful. Some NFL fans may be surprised to learn that the rookie kicker was a brick salesman just a year and a half ago. “I couldn’t have even dreamed of this moment,” claimed the kicker.
“I couldn’t have even dreamed of this moment. This is so cool.”
Jake Bates was training to be a salesman with Acme Bricks in Houston. No shade, but now he says he has “the best job in the world.” An NFL game-winning kicker. pic.twitter.com/zkTpKDlCUJ

According to Rachel Hopmayer, the current Lions kicker was a brick salesman for Acme Bricks in Houston. Bates has now claimed that he has the best job in the world, and it’s being an “NFL game-winning kicker.”
Needless to say, social media had a lot of questions about Bates’ previous job:
Brick Salesman? There are salesmen for Bricks?

Interesting. I’d think they’d sell themselves.

Jake Bates Was A Brick Salesman Just 18 Months Ago
Bates claimed that his dream felt dead when he was back in Houston, which isn’t the case anymore. He is kicking at 100%, and his Detroit Lions are currently 5-1 on the season and at the top of the NFC North.
According to USA Today, Bates could have also set a record on Sunday night, and Lions head coach Dan Campbell wanted to send him out, but he deemed it too far for the rookie’s leg.
Either way, the Lions should be happy with the result after beating a tough and tough divisional opponent. Detroit is set to be back in action when they face the Tennesee Titans in week eight of the NFL season, and if his stats are anything to go by, Bates will surely have a successful game.
