Robert Saleh helping pal Matt LaFleur prepare at Packers practice weeks after Jets firing

A familiar face was in Green Bay on Wednesday.

Ex-Jets head coach Robert Saleh was on the sidelines at Packers practice, just weeks after his early October firing.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur told reporters after practice that Saleh was helping the team out on the offensive side by providing a defensive perspective, calling the partnership “fluid.” Saleh is staying at his house through Thursday and returning home Friday.

Saleh and LaFleur have a long history together after they met as graduate assistants at Central Michigan University in 2004.

Saleh considers LaFleur “like a brother” and the Packers coach was the best man at his wedding.

The pair was also on staff together with the Texans in 2008 and 2009.

Matt’s younger brother, Mike LaFleur, served as Saleh’s offensive coordinator with the Jets in 2021 and 2022.

Saleh was reportedly “blindsided” after he lost his job following the Jets’ Week 5 loss to the Vikings, which dropped them to 2-3, although he thanked the team and fans for his tenure in the days after the news.

“To the Jets Organization, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with so many incredible people,” Saleh said in a statement. “I will always be appreciative of the love and support from everyone at 1 Jets Drive.

“To all of the players, I truly love and appreciate every single one of you. The character of the men in the locker room made coaching you guys the ultimate privilege. Through all the ups and downs, each and every one of you showed up everyday and attacked every moment.”
