Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams has been widely mentioned in trade rumors this offseason, but new GM Tom Telesco has yet to receive an offer for his liking as training camp approaches.
Davante Adams expressed his frustration with the Raiders during their offensive struggles last season, leading to speculation that he would seek a trade. There aren’t any indicators that he wants out, but it just takes one can’t-refuse offer for the Raiders to move out their top offensive player.
The 31-year-old Adams has been widely linked to the New York Jets in trade rumors for one obvious reason: That’s where his longtime Green Bay Packer teammate, Aaron Rodgers, currently plays. With Adams on the wrong side of 30, he’s running out of time on the chance to add a Super Bowl ring to his Hall of Fame career.
Shervon Fakhimi of ClutchPoints proposed a blockbuster trade idea that would see the Jets reunite Adams and Rodgers at long last. The cost in Fakhimi’s proposal? Second-round draft picks in 2025 and 2027:
“Two second-round picks is a solid price to pay for a team that is intent on maximizing their window for success with Rodgers under center. The biggest reason they should make this move is that they really need another wide receiver to pair with Garrett Wilson. Mike Williams was a nice signing in free agency, but he’s about to turn 30 in October and is coming off a torn ACL…
“Vegas projects the Raiders to win roughly six or seven games this year, which isn’t exactly the sign of a contender. Adams is a fantastic player, but it would be better for the Raiders’ long-term outlook to trade him now while they can. If they decide to move on from him, the Jets make a lot of sense for him, and this trade offer could get the job done for them.”Vegas projects the Raiders to win roughly six or seven games this year, which isn’t exactly the sign of a contender. Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers spent eight years together in Green Bay (2014 to 2021), leading the team to four NFC Championship appearances. Rodgers also won three league MVP awards with Adams as his go-to playmaker (2014, 2020 and 2021).
Jets Should Do Everything They Can To Land Davante Adams
Rodgers will be 41 years of age in December and is running out of time to add a second Super Bowl ring to his trophy room. Throw in his past success with Adams, and it’s no wonder that New York has been frequently mentioned as a potential landing spot for the All-Pro wideout.
The Jets should be a Super Bowl-contending team with a healthy Rodgers running their offense. But if he had Davante Adams as his No. 1 receiver, the Jets would emerge as the team to beat in the NFL for 2024.
No other team would field a top-10 defense with a future Hall of Famer at QB, and a set of weapons led by Adams, Garrett Wilson, Mike Williams, Allen Lazard and Breece Hall, after all.
