Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany are carrying on a unique family tradition with their children.
The couple welcomed their third child during the Chiefs’ bye week, Golden Raye Mahomes, who is following in the footsteps of her two older siblings, Sterling Skye and Patrick “Bronze” Lavon, who also have distinctive metal-inspired names — an idea that actually came from Mahomes’ younger brother.
“Jackson suggested Bronze to match Sterling, and it fit perfectly,” Mahomes explained. “It works out well because now Sterling and Bronze can have that connection moving forward.”
But Brittany recently revealed during an interview with Today.com that had the couple listened to their oldest daughter, Golden would’ve actually been named after a character in one of Disney’s most successful movie franchises, “Frozen.”
“My daughter wants me to name her Elsa,” Brittany said. “She was set on it for a while, but obviously we’re not doing that. … We went back and forth [on the name] for a while. But the one we settled on, we really, really love.”
While not directly related to a metal (or medal), had the Mahomes went with Elsa, their daughter’s namesake would still have a strong tie-in with success. “Frozen” and “Frozen II” are the 12th- and seventh-highest grossing Disney films of all-time.
Despite losing out on naming their baby sister, Brittany disclosed that Sterling and Bronze both had the same reaction to finding out they were going to have a new sibling.
“All [bronze] says is ‘I want baby sissy,’ and then he’ll ask to see my stomach…although I’m not sure if it’s registered that an actual human is coming,” Brittany said. “And Sterling is completely obsessed. She loves to play with babies.”
Mahomes, who no longer has to worry about Brittany going into labor during a game, and the Chiefs host the Houston Texans on Saturday in the AFC divisional round of the playoffs.
