Why Will The Blue Jays Fail To Sign Alex Bregman? Find Out

Alex Bregman was predicted to make news this offseason, but unfortunately, he is still to decide on a clear future for him. While the spring training date is nearing, the rumor market has little to very less hope on his return to the Toronto Blue Jays.

But what has really got the Blue Jays in the mix for securing Bregman? There are a couple of reasons that are blocking the contract. The team is prioritizing their internal stars over big-name free agents. With Vladimir Guerrero Jr. heading into the final year of his contract, the Jays are laser-focused on locking down their fan-favorite first baseman.

Guerrero, who had an MVP-caliber season hitting .323 with 30 home runs, is younger than Bregman. And it is evidently clear that the latter is in the final leg of his baseball career.  Extending Guerrero ensures long-term stability, and fans have made it clear they adore him. With limited financial flexibility, the Blue Jays are unlikely to divert resources away from this critical negotiation, pushing Bregman further down their list of priorities.

Another factor working against the Blue Jays signing Bregman is their contingency plan involving Bo Bichette. The 26-year-old shortstop has proven himself as one of the league’s top talents. He is seen as a younger and equally impactful option to build around. Retaining Bichette is a more practical choice for the franchise. Bichette remains under team control for longer. The team is already facing significant payroll commitments.

While Bregman’s bat and glove would undoubtedly improve Toronto’s roster, the club’s decision-makers appear intent on keeping their core intact. They focus on players with stronger connections to the fanbase. There is also a greater upside for the future with these players.

Alex Bregman Is Getting Linked With Boston Red Sox

Even if the Blue Jays are taking Bregman as a for-granted option, the star third baseman is attracting other teams as well. As Alex continues his search for a new team, the Red Sox are emerging as a top fit for him. With Rafael Devers currently manning the hot corner, Bregman could seamlessly transition to second base.

The Red Sox are in need of an offensive boost as they aim to climb back into contention with rivals like the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles in the competitive American League East. And that quest makes Bregman’s offensive strengths and veteran experience a plus for Boston’s lineup.

Moreover, the Red Sox’s current situation provides an attractive backdrop for Bregman. As a young, emerging team, the Tigers could also be a viable option. However, Boston’s familiar atmosphere and passionate fanbase might draw him in more. The organization is reportedly eager to make a splash in free agency, and Bregman, a two-time All-Star and Gold Glove winner fits the bill perfectly.
