We’re still a day away from kickoff for the 2024 AFC Championship Game, and fans are already convinced that it’s been rigged in favor of Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs.
The defending Super Bowl champions will host Josh Allen and the archrival Buffalo Bills at Arrowhead Stadium, marking the fourth postseason meeting between the two teams since 2020. The Chiefs, of course, have emerged victorious in each of those games.
Head official Clete Blakeman and his crew will be under the microscope in the AFC Championship Game, given the notion that the refs have been “favoring” the Chiefs. After all, Mahomes and company were the beneficiary of three terrible calls in last week’s Divisional Round win against the Houston Texans.
The game is still a day away, but fans are already accusing the league of fixing the AFC Championship Game in favor of the home team.
“I literally put money on the Chiefs every time and never lost a bet Definitely rigged,” one fan said.
“Considering NFL seems rigged for KC, I think this is the outcome. I think with Hurts, PHI would have beat WASH 35-20 few weeks ago…31-20 Eagles 27-24 Chiefs,” wrote another.
“I don’t hold the chiefs on a pedestal due to the league being rigged and all about the money,” said one fan.
“yea..that game is so rigged. @NFL Bet your home on the Chiefs,” another quipped.
“Go Bill’s! But Chiefs will win, refs will make sure,” said another.
“Unfortunately the refs will win it for the Chiefs,” wrote one fan.
The Chiefs defeated the Bills at home in the 2020 AFC Championship Game, the 2021 Divisional Round at Arrowhead and again at Highmark Stadium in last year’s Divisional Round.
There is always plenty of hype around Bills-Chiefs playoff games, and their last five head-to-head meetings certainly did not disappoint. Regardless of which team you cheer for, we can all only hope that the NFL refs will call a fair game and not let it come down to a controversial call of any kind.
Plenty At Stake In The AFC Championship Game
If Mahomes and the Chiefs win, they’ll keep their dream of completing the first Super Bowl three-peat alive. There isn’t as much pressure on them to win this game as Buffalo, but they’re just two victories away from perhaps cementing themselves as the greatest dynasty.
And if you’re the Bills, what more can you say? If they’re not going to break through their Kryptonite this year, it’s fair to wonder if the day will ever come.
