Carmelo Anthony Reveals The Reason Why People Don’t See Jayson Tatum As The Next Face Of The NBA

Jayson Tatum is coming off an NBA title-winning season with the Boston Celtics for the first time in his illustrious NBA career. Though in the regular season, conference games, and NBA finals, Tatum’s athleticism attracted widespread attention from fans and veterans, the Celtics star could not bag the MVP title. NBA legend Carmelo Anthony recently shared his perspective on Tatum’s potential and current standing in the league.

According to Anthony, Tatum needs to reach a higher level of prowess to be considered the next face of the NBA, similar to how Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves is viewed.

“The reason why we put Anthony Edwards there is because of his aura. If JT had that aura, it’s over,” Anthony said in his 7PM in Brooklyn podcast.

In contrast to Tatum’s team’s success, contrasting fates awaited Edwards and his team. The Timberwolves fell short in the Western Conference Finals, losing to the Dallas Mavericks, who then lost to Tatum’s Celtics in the NBA Finals.

Jayson Tatum vs. Anthony Edwards NBA Career Stats

Jayson Tatum has been a regular star of the Celtics, playing 7 seasons for them. Throughout these seasons, the highest-paid NBA player has averaged 23.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in 513 regular-season games. Last season, his athleticism saw him averaging 26.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 4.9 assists in 74 games.

In contrast, Anthony Edwards has just completed 4 seasons for the Timberwolves. He averaged 22.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.1 assists in 302 regular-season games.

The Timberwolves star was a dominant factor in leading them in the WCF before ultimately falling short against the Mavericks. He played 79 regular-season games last season, averaging 25.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists.

Interestingly, both Tatum and Edwards are now vying for a shared goal of winning gold for the USA in the Paris Olympics. Team USA will play their first match in the Olympics on July 28.
