Cameras caught a tense scene between Texas Tech Red Raiders players and Arizona State fans after ASU’s upset win at Mountain America Stadium on Saturday.
The Texas Tech Red Raiders entered Saturday’s game against the Arizona State Sun Devils with a perfect 6-0 record, having defeated each of their previous opponents by 24 or more points.
But Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt outdueled Texas Tech’s Will Hammond with a mistake-free performance, completing 28 pass attempts for 319 yards, a touchdown and no turnovers in the 26-22 win, per ESPN.
As if the Sun Devils’ upset of Texas Tech wasn’t crazy enough to begin with, cameras caught several ASU fans getting into a confrontation with multiple Red Raiders players after the game.
In the video below, Texas Tech Red Raiders defensive lineman Lee Hunter and wide receiver Bryson Jones can be seen exchanging words with Arizona State fans who stormed the field after the game. Hunter even takes a swipe at one of the ASU fans:
You certainly don’t see that every day.
Texas Tech Red Raiders Look To Rebound vs. Oklahoma State

Texas Tech came into the game against Arizona State as the nation’s seventh-ranked team, but they’re sure to fall after losing to an unranked opponent. The Miami Hurricanes (ranked No. 2) also suffered a brutal loss at home to the unranked Louisville Cardinals, falling 24-21 after a four-pick outing by Carson Beck.
The good news for the Texas Tech Red Raiders is that their schedule is manageable the rest of the way. Among their final five opponents, the only ranked team is the BYU Cougars, who are 15th in the nation.
Texas Tech will look to rebound when it hosts the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Saturday (4:00 p.m. EST).
