Anthony Edwards sets it clear as he says that he is the first option for Team USA

Another Olympic basketball tournament is almost here and, once again, Team USA is the favorite to win it all and they are rightfully the ones at the top of the list. This team is loaded with talent and just the fact that choosing who the starters will be is a struggle itself because of how they can conform a winning product trying not to leave anyone out.

Sadly, while that can’t be the case, there are plenty of players whiling to raise their hand and lead this team to a possible Olympic championship and that is the case for Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards. He has himself as the main option in the team even when there are a lot of players that can score.

“I’m still the number one option. Y’all might look at it differently,” Edwards said, “…I just go out there and be myself. Shoot my shots, play defense. They’ve got to fit in to play around me. That’s how I feel.”

An interesting take from the NBA star

There is a lot of experience in Team USA, with players like LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, Joel Embiid and many others, but Anthony Edwards, even at 22 years old, has the confidence in him to lead the way and the team.

Edwards is coming off a season where he averaged 25.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game and in the playoffs, he was no different. He averaged 27.5 points per game and if that was not enough, he had three games where he scored 40+ points to lead the Timberwolves to a Western Conference Finals appearance.

Maybe he is the first option in the team after all, taking in hand that the experience the other players have, can also be taken as a disadvantage if their age come into play and the youth of Edwards is better for the demanding level in the games.
