Pittsburgh Steelers Star Suspended For The First Eight Games Of The 2024 Season

The Pittsburgh Steelers will be without one of their defensive starters for the first eight games of the upcoming 2024 season.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the NFL has suspended Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Cameron Sutton for the first eight games of 2024 for violating the league’s Personal Conduct Policy. He will be eligible to return for their Week 10 road game against the Washington Commanders that falls after their bye week.

Sutton was charged with domestic battery against his girlfriend back in March, leading to his release from the Detroit Lions. Sutton evaded authorities for three weeks before turning himself in.

After spending his first six seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Sutton signed a three-year deal with the Detroit Lions in 2023 free agency worth $33 million. Sutton had one interception, six pass breakups and one forced fumble as the Lions went on to reach their first NFC title game in 32 years.

After his release from Detroit, the Steelers decided to bring back Sutton. He joins a secondary led by All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, rising star Joey Porter Jr. and offseason trade pickup Donte Jackson, who arrived via trade with Carolina in the Diontae Johnson blockbuster.

For his career, Sutton has nine interceptions, 44 pass breakups, six forced fumbles, two sacks and 233 combined tackles. The Steelers made the playoffs three times during Sutton’s first six years there (2017, 2020 and 2021).

Pittsburgh Steelers Open Season vs. Atlanta Falcons

The Steelers will try to start 2024 off on a high note when they open their season with a Week 1 road contest against the Atlanta Falcons. Expectations are high for an Atlanta team that signed four-time Pro Bowl signal-caller Kirk Cousins to a $180 million deal in free agency.

Pittsburgh has won four straight meetings against Atlanta, last losing to them in the 2006 season, Michael Vick’s final year with the Falcons.
