Tom Brady’s position as an NFL owner is expected to cause some bias when the Detroit Lions host the Washington Commanders on Saturday.
At least that’s how ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio sees it.
Florio has suggested that the former quarterback’s roles as a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders and a FOX broadcaster create a “conflict of interest,” which is why there’s a belief that he will quit before the 2025 NFL season.
The journalist has also cited a report from the Las Vegas Review-Journal noting that Brady is running the show where it pertains to the team’s executive decisions.
“Throw in the fact that he’s searching for a new coach, and it ratchets things up another notch,” he writes.
With Brady set to call the Commanders-Lions game for FOX on Saturday night, Florio believes that “things” intensify even higher as his top coaching target, Ben Johnson, will be the one calling the plays for the Lions offense.
Mike Florio Wants FOX To Make Specific Tom Brady Announcements
Mike Florio thinks the network has a responsibility to tell viewers that Tom Brady will not be a “detached and neutral commentator.” He adds that it should be announced that the seven-time Super Bowl winner is a minority Raiders owner actively involved in the HC search before the game.
The Raiders have already interviewed Johson and the Lions’ defensive coordinator, Aaron Glenn, which Florio also wants to be highlighted in the buildup to the playoff fixture as he feels like fans should evaluate Brady’s performance “through that lens.”
The NFL has already placed strict restrictions on Brady due to his ownership deal with the Raiders, but Florio thinks FOX should take it further and make certain announcements when he’s going to call games in which there will be individuals with some link to his team.
Of course, that’s unlikely to happen.
