Jason Kelce reveals brother Travis’ childhood nickname ahead of Chiefs-Texans playoff game

Jason Kelce revealed his brother Travis’ self-given childhood nickname ahead of the Kansas City Chiefs game against the Houston Texans.

The former Philadelphia Eagles star, now an analyst for ESPN, headed to Arrowhead Stadium to cover the divisional playoff showdown between the reigning Super Bowl champions and the AFC South winners.

As the ESPN crew pointed out how Travis was in shorts despite the low temperatures in Kansas City, they asked Jason if Travis was always ‘the crazy guy,’ in the neighborhood when they were growing up in Cleveland Heights.

‘He was the crazy guy,’ Jason answered. ‘I think we both were pretty reckless whenever the snow was falling in Cleveland.’

Jason then told the crew how Travis went by the name of an NBA legend he idolized growing up.

‘He also told the entire block his name was Charles cause his favorite basketball player was Charles Barkley,’ Jason shared.

‘We found out at a block party cause all the other parents [said], ‘There goes Charles.’ That’s the kind of kid Travis was.’

‘He was always living up to all of his sports idols for sure,’ he continued.

In his tenth year with Kansas City, Kelce’s numbers have fallen significantly from previous campaigns. While he’s tallied 97 receptions, four more than last year, the tight end is seeing career-low yards (823) and touchdowns (3).

The Chiefs hope for a repeat of Kelce’s postseason form last year when he tallied two touchdowns against Buffalo in the divisional playoffs and another against Baltimore in the AFC title game.

Kansas City had a near-perfect season with a 15-2 record atop the AFC West. Their only losses came against Buffalo and Denver.

The reigning champions are coming fresh off a bye week as they gear up to face the Texans who upset the Chargers, 32-12, in a wild card defensive masterclass.
